The name Atabey has ties to the Taino Indians and the cigar culture. It all began with Cohiba which referred to the circle the tribe would gather in to pray.
They would offer their prayers to the leader known as Behike who in turn would deliver those prayers to the Goddess Atabey.
Atabey Cigars comes to us from Nelson Alfonso and is made in Costa Rica where the blend is only known by a select few.
It's an incredibly smooth cigar with a flavor profile that is as perfect as they come.
So much so that The Cigar Authority has awarded multiple sizes of the line a prestigious 100 rating.
One of the best cigars in the house. From the mind of Nelson Alfonso, Byron Cigars has been delivering some of the most consistent, flavorful, and popular cigars of the modern ear. Mimicking different eras of cigar history the Byron line has something for everyone.
All Byron cigars are aged for three to five years after rolling which imparts the highest level of consistency, quality, and flavor.
This process is extremely expensive, and the reason why Byron offers an almost unopposed quality cigar.
Nelson Alfonso and the Alfonso family has been in the tobacco industry for several generation. Nelson is also well known for his creation and development of most of the Habanos humidors, ashtrays, and art work.

CA #9 Cigar Of The Year 2017
Gorgeous, ornate artwork and a blend that was selected for the perfect marriage of texture, flavor, and balance, La Historia employs a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers. Rich, chewy flavors coat the palate before you’re hit with subtleties of roasted nuts, espresso, black pepper, and dark chocolate. Just a hint of sweetness on the finish adds the perfect balance.
Five stars/95 points:
"The Perez-Carrillos worked two years on this cigar, and it shows in the final product, which is finished with a luxurious, dark leaf of Mexican tobacco grown in the San Andrés Valley."
For those of you who don't know, Steve Saka used to be a master blender over at Drew Estate and helped produce some top-notch blends under that brand.
Today, he blends with Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust and since the company’s induction into the industry in 2015, they have already put out some highly-rated blends that are grabbing enthusiast’s attention all over.
The Muestra de Saka line of cigars is an interesting one. Mustra de Saka Translates to "Saka's Sample". This is a line of cigars that are limited release blends that are all different and meant to reflect the blending mechanisms of Saka himself.
The Nacatamale is the second release in the line and it’s produced at the Joya de Nicaragua factory in Nicaragua. When Saka started working on this blend, he challenged himself to use the old style 'farm blending' where all the filler tobaccos come from the same farm. Today most cigar blends are comprised of tobaccos from many different countries and farms to create complex and satisfying tastes.
All the fillers in Nacatamale come from a farm in Jalapa Nicaragua with a Nicaraguan binder and Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on top. The result is a complex medium to full bodied cigar with a notes of deep earthiness, pepper, caramel, and a rich, tobacco sweetness.
The Exclusivo is a true homage to the nation of Nicaragua. The blend employs an Ecuador Habano wrapper over tobacco from each one of its four main growing regions: Condega, Esteli, Ometepe, and Jalapa, and the profile is as complex and dynamic as they come.
The medium to full-bodied flavor profile is bursting with notes of citrus, nuts, toast, pepper, and earth, layering the palate in a rich, smooth spice that lasts long into the finish.
A Connecticut for a new age.
Steve Saka has been known to avoid clichés. For instance, when he finally caved to the pressure of making a lancero vitola, he named it #NLMTHA, for “Now Leave Me the Hell Alone.”
He does things his way, so creating a mellow Connecticut-shade cigar proved to be a daunting task. Most aficionados who reach for a Sobremesa aren’t as interested in the same-old Connecticuts with their bitter, grassy profiles, so he looked to the past.
Saka sampled several mainstay Connecticut cigars to come up with the blend for the Sobremesa Brulee, a cigar that’s at the same time classic and contemporary.
A luxurious Connecticut shade wrapper grown under natural cloud cover in Ecuador sits atop a Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder, with a carefully selected Nicaraguan filler blend.
The flavors are all classic Connecticut, with extra complexity and refinement that can only come from the high-quality ingredients hand-selected by Saka himself.
Connoisseurs and casual hobbyists alike take note: the mellow nutty flavors hearken back to the glory days of Connecticut, and will be right at home in any humidor.
From Matt Booth Himself, The Prototipo 101. This cigar was blended to go head-to-head with some of the heavy hitters on the market today. However, Matt wanted it to be something he considers a "Daily Driver". Something you'd smoke every day, because it is affordable, and consistent. We'd say he did it, The Prototipo is an amazing Nicaraguan Puro with notes of Chocolate, pepper, coffee, and all the nuanced flavors you've come to expect from Nicaragua.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Profile: Medium
The wrapper has a dull brown shade and there are lots of bumps and a decent amount of veins that run down the side of the cigar. This is a peculiar shape for a belicoso with a very elongated taper and a sharp point. What’s interesting is that if you said the words “Padrón belicoso,” this isn’t the first, second or even third shape I would think of given the company’s previous releases. The aroma from the wrapper is medium-plus with barnyard, oak, dark chocolate and something that reminds me of the smell of dark rum. The foot has a stronger scent with individual sensations of cocoa, floral flavors, cedar, and a red pepper that creeps down my throat if I take an aggressive whiff. Cold draws taste of cereal, cocoa powder, coffee, gingerbread and a touch of orange. It’s medium-plus in intensity,.
The new Liga Privada T52 is the highly anticipated follow up to the coveted Liga Privada No. 9 by Drew Estate. The T52 employs a unique stalk-cut Sungrown Habano wrapper overtop a signature recipe of seven different varieties of tobacco. On the outside, the stalk-cut wrapper is exquisite....dark, reddish-brown and glistening with oils. After rolling T52 is aged one full year, resulting in a brilliant array of complex nuances. Bold, distinct and loaded with notes of leather, earth, spices and black pepper, T52 is robust and satisfying.
Translating to “private blend,” Liga Privada cigars are utter masterpieces that were originally created solely for Drew Estate employees. Just like Liga Privada No. 9, only the best rollers are used to ensure a perfectly constructed, utterly consistent product.
The T52 contains a distinct, extraordinarily unique stalk-cut tobacco blend wrapped in a flawless Connecticut Habano broadleaf. Rest assured, you’ll rejoice in this stick’s strength. Black pepper and spicy notes reign supreme through each draw of this thick, robust smoke.
Five Stars/92 points: "A dark, oily robusto packed with full-bodied tobacco, though it burns and draws evenly. The smoke is bold with cedar and leather while touches of orange peel and acidity come through on the palate."
E.P. Carrillo Pledge Prequel is one of the most highly-anticipated and sought-after cigars to ever bear the E.P. Carrillo name. The third installment in the celebrated and decorated Perez-Carrillo series following La Historia and Encore, Pledge is said to be the crowning achievement of the man deemed “The Godfather of Boutique Cigars,” Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. Rolled only by the most seasoned torcedors at Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic, Pledge contains ultra-premium tobaccos from 3 different countries. The filler blend is Nicaraguan, the binder from Ecuador, and the dark, oily wrapper is a unique Connecticut Habano leaf grown right here in the U.S.A. Its predecessors were both impeccable specimens—La Historia earned a 95 rating and was named the No. 2 cigar of 2014. Encore got an even better 96, earning the No. 1 spot in 2018. That being said, Pledge had some big shoes to fill. In 2020, the year of its release, Pledge earned an historic 98 rating and easily strolled to the No. 1 spot in the year’s top 25
